Theatre-Making

Playwright, Director, Producer

IMG_2735.JPG

I'm a New York-based theater-maker and the co-founder of SpArkling Theater Studio, an experimental theater production company I established with Annora Dong in 2024.

My artistic practice centers on cross-cultural dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a focus on visual and physical storytelling -- where performance becomes a shared experience between the stage and the audience, and where storytelling happens as much through presence as through words.

I also produce my own work, supporting original experimental projects from development to full production.

The photographer, having grown up moving between China and the U.S., has always grappled with confusion about her cultural identity. Initially, she believed photography offered her a sense of security. Later, however, she came to see it as a weapon—a tool to fight against inequality. After high school, she began photographing many Chinese Americans, sparking movements for equal rights. Over time, she was increasingly embraced by the Chinese American community and, through her photography, found a sense of belonging within it. Yet, at a photography exhibition depicted in the play, the most significant piece symbolizing her cultural identity goes missing, reflecting her lingering uncertainty about fully embracing the identity of a Chinese American.

Bond is a non-profit theater performance presented by SpArkling Theatre Studio and Global Youth Philanthropy as an official Parallel Event at the 2025 United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69). It is adapted from Harvard NeuroBond by Lin, Tian, crafted for the stage by co-playwrights and co-directors Annora (Jiyun) Dong and Jiening (Sophia) Zhu. Through a dynamic combination of interactive technology and physical theatre, the production explores the intricate layers of human connection, trauma, and self-discovery.

Separated by a curtain yet bound by fate, April and June navigate the audience on a parallel journey—one seeking healing, the other offering help and love bottomlessly. As light and shadow shape their world, the boundaries between distance and intimacy, isolation and understanding, gradually blur.

With its evocative visual language and immersive storytelling, Bond invites the audience into a space where emotions unfold in raw and poetic form. It is a reflection on the delicate dance of human relationships—how we reach for one another, how we retreat, and ultimately, how we find our way to connection.
